The Valdelsa is an area of Tuscany with unique characteristics, here we find the peculiarities of the continental climate, in which the maritime influences of the Tyrrhenian are combined with the mountain ones of the Apennines.
In their company, a Gambassi spa, encounter Manuela e Michele, newlyweds and heirs of two important viticultural traditions: those of the Tuscans Drummers and those of the Friulians Jermann.
Fifty hectares, including vineyards in the Chianti and Montalcino,Tamburini Farm, located about 250 above sea level, raises Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Canaiolo, Colorino, Trebbiano and Malvasia Toscana together with about 1000 olive trees that give back an oil with pleasant herbaceous scents.
"A wine is good when it doesn't tire you, I believe that our wines are the perfect combination of Tuscanity and conviviality, they are wines born for food, ours, the Tuscan one." He tells me Emanuela Tamburini - “My father has always had a passion for the countryside, it is thanks to him that this company is still productive today. It was born to sell bulk wine, today it has been transformed into a modern cellar with many labels, all to be discovered. "
The predominantly clayey soils and the breezy climate allow the grapes to ripen perfectly, even in very hot years such as that of 2021, in which the lack of rain has made the plants suffer in much of Tuscany.
"I am originally from Friuli and grew up in an important wine company," - Michele tells me - "I accepted an important challenge, immersing myself completely in the Tuscan reality and putting my skills and experience into play in a new context and dynamic. "
Today the Tamburini farm produces a wide range of both white and red wines, the latest born on Rosé TJ (which I talked about in this article) the rosé made in Valdelsa that celebrates the little one Mariadele, born from the love between Michele and Emanuela (MEM).
Trebbiano and Malvasia Toscana, straw yellow in color with greenish reflections, on the nose hints of grapefruit, medicinal herbs, lavender and white peach. Fresh and lively palate, with hints of lime and a beautiful and bright minerality on the finish.
The Boss, Chianti 2018
Sangiovese and Canaiolo, ruby in color with purple reflections, a fleshy nose of ripe fruit, violet, lavender and notes of currant. Lively sip and vigorous tannin, it closes with references to wild strawberries and blackberries.
Sangiovese and Merlot, ruby in color with purple reflections, ripe fruit, violet, morello cherry on the nose and a pleasant spicy note on the finish. Rich and composed sip, with good acidity and a pleasant finish with hints of coffee.
Italo, Chianti Riserva 2016
Sangiovese, Canaiole and Colorino, intense ruby color with orange reflections, ripe red fruit on the nose but also blackberry, lavender, references to rosemary and Mediterranean scrub. Lively and fresh sip, crunchy fruit and full and important sour shoulder.
Sangiovese, Merlot and Petit Verdot, ruby color with purple reflections, nose rich in ripe dark fruit, balsamic and lavender notes. Lively and fresh palate, sweet and persistent matter, at the end hints of coffee and chocolate. A wine with a strong international character.
Somnio, Brunello di Montalcino 2016
100% large Sangiovese, intense ruby color with orange reflections, intense and heady fruit on the nose accompanied by toasted notes, hints of leather and coffee but also Mediterranean scrub and pleasant balsamic hints. Complex and lively palate, well-structured tannins, closes with hints of bitter chocolate.
Michele and Emanuela are two wonderful people who not only as a couple but also professionally know how to integrate perfectly, and who I am sure will be able to give a great boost to their farm.
