Tuscan wineries resist the impact of the pandemic (-9% for exports), rediscovered in internal market an interesting pool of consumers (+ 11% of sales), take the path of digitization (e-commerce, home delivery, virtual tasting and digital B2B) and they are increasingly attentive to the wellbeing and experiential trends of post-Covid wine tourism.

The 11th edition of PrimAnteprima, which turned the spotlight on 12 of the most promising Tuscan Consortia, was entirely dedicated to the specialized press, national and foreign: Bianco di Pitigliano and Sovana, Candia dei Colli Apuani, Carmignano, Chianti Rufina, Hills of Lucca, Cortona, Tuscan Maremma, Montecucco, Orcia, Terre di Pisa, Val di Cornia and Suvereto, Valdarno di Sopra.

The stop imposed on the Horeca sector globally in 2020 slowed down the export of wines made in Tuscany (758 thousand hectoliters exported, 9% less than in 2019), but retail sales in Italy jumped forward with + 11%, compared to + 5,3% of the national average. The "detachment" from other PDOs is also confirmed in the first three months of 2021, the period in which quality Tuscan wines have entered the homes of Italians through large-scale distribution, marking an increase in sales of as much as 19%. The Tuscan harvest of 2020, as had been widely expected, it marked a slight decline in production, but a maximum hold in the quality of the product: 2,2 million hectoliters of wine (in 2019 they were 2,6 million), of which 67% (1,4 , XNUMX million) represented by DOP labels.

The tasting day took place in full compliance with the anti Covid protocols: buffer at the entrance, distances, and impeccable service by the many AIS sommeliers present at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. My very personal thanks goes to the Sommelier Alessio Cangemi, which supported me during my tasting.
