The history of the twentieth century with its abysses and horrors, is the theme of the 900 international exhibitions that inaugurate the new year at Florence Museum of the Twentieth Century, the new generations dialogue with one of the most important artists of the Italian contemporary panorama: Fabio Mauri.

"On this occasion the history of the twentieth century, even with its abysses and horrors, is at the center of the exhibition program - underlines the artistic director of the Museo Novecento Sergio Risaliti -. Fabio Mauri's works are one of the highest artistic testimonies of our time, having taken on the task of witnessing how much pain power and ideologies generate in the service of evil: a witness who does not exhaust his task because all his art is addressed to a present of conflict and redemption that never ceases.

The same ethical tension and the same political urgency dominate the artistic language of Elena Mazzi, capable of repositioning artistic language at the center of global, economic and ecological processes in particular. In his personal exhibition visitors will be welcomed by formally flawless and beautiful works that in any case transmit contents of mandatory relevance: the life of bees, the processes of relocation, the new ways of communication and trade that upset the natural balance.

The exhibition of Emanuele Becheri it gives us the opportunity to get to know the incessant and tireless work of an artist who experiments tradition and the modern with the practice of drawing and sculpture and does so by probing the expressive possibilities of the two languages, where the history of sculpture and drawing seemed to have ended . No wonder then the amazing installation of a hundred sculptures in which we can recognize a sort of human comedy developed in an infinite number of figurative embryos.

Last but not least, it deserves to enhance the work of the very young Simona Andrioletti and Riccardo Rudi which, starting from a verse of that giant of poetry that is Giuseppe Ungaretti, gives us an artistic key to understand that we are all on the same boat in search of 'an innocent country' ".

  • Installations for the Memorial Day

27 from January to February 23 the Palazzo Vecchio Museum will host the Hall of Lilies the installation by Fabio Mauri The wall Western or Crying which was first presented by the artist in 1993 at the XLV Venice Biennale. A four-meter wall, formed by a pile of suitcases and stacked trunks, of different sizes and materials (wood, leather, canvas) that invites a deep reflection on the themes of exile, forced exodus and migration, in their variety and complexity.

From the 23 to the 27 January installation Chinese Whispers di Simona Andrioletti (Bergamo, 1990) e Riccardo Rudi (Ponte dell'Olio, 1989), will make the "wireless telephone" (in English "Chinese Whispers") of nine people of different nationalities who have left their country resound within the Renaissance architecture of the loggia of the Novecento Museum of origin and recite the verses of the poetry Rover by Giuseppe Ungaretti.

“The Museo Novecento is confirmed as the central pole of contemporary art - stated the councilor for culture of the Municipality of Florence Tommaso Sacchithanks to a constant calendar of new temporary exhibitions and new and powerful thematic installations, it has managed to build a leading role in the city's museum panorama, a role supported by ever-increasing numbers ".
