Montauto Castle is 15 minutes away from Florence. It was built in the year 980 for defensive purposes by the powerful Gherardini family and between the XIII and XIV centuries it was at the center of bitter disputes between the factions of the Guelphs and Ghibellines first and then among those even more violent between white and black Guelphs. The toponym derives from a contraction of "Monte Acuto". The oldest nucleus of the castle is the high XNUMXth century tower, still existing in the center of the property, surrounded by a kind of rustic keep, with exposed stone facing.

Around 1550 the building was enlarged and transformed into a suburban villa for the Florentine merchant, at that time the numerous grotesque decorations of the interiors and of the loggia on the south side also date back, while the north one is in a more sober Florentine style, with columns and the property is surrounded by a romantic park of cypresses and holm oaks that hide it, with a chapel outside the first circle of walls, with an austere and simple appearance on the outside and decorated inside by a fresco attributed to the school of Giorgio Vasari.

A series of concerts at the Castle of Montauto was born thanks to the commitment of a group of young Florentine musicians, who prepared the place to host events and to the artistic and organizational support of two Florentine cultural associations, La Filharmonie and La Chute. The Filharmonie takes care of a classic and contemporary programming that ranges from Baroque to the twentieth century, from chamber music to opera. On July 10th appointment with the Wind Quintet of La Filharmonie with music by Grieg, Rossini, Iber, Ligeti and Cambini. A program of great curiosity and freshness with a contemporary flavor without renouncing the great classical-romantic repertoire. The quintet is made up of the first parts of the La Filharmonie Orchestra which boasts experiences with other chamber and orchestral ensembles on a national and international scale.

On July 24 he returns Calicantus string ensemble together with lead singers Alexandra Grigoras and Alexander Jarl Porsteinsson; program dedicated to French vocality and Debussy's famous string quartet considered one of the greatest masterpieces of "16-string" literature. On August 7 Vivaldian evening with Calicantus Ensemble and the timeless Four Seasons by the Venetian master.

In Montauto La Chute brings three very special and requested concerts.

July 3 arrives THE LOCKDOWN BLUES, the new free form project that brings together four internationally renowned musicians from Romagna: "Don" Antonio Gramentieri, Vince Vallicelli, Nicola Peruch and Roberto Villa. The lockdown blues was born as a streaming event, as a live without audience within the Filharmonie Association Via Lupo 3 - 50125 Florence www.lafilharmonie.com famous Lombardi amplifier factory: with 25.000 spectators connected from all over the world, it turned out to be one of the most popular live on the web during the cloistered period. Inevitable therefore that it became a disco and a concert that arrives in Florence for the first (and probably only) time, given the absolutely exceptional nature of the project.

On July 18 instead a great return: SWORN FLAVIO, the cult songwriter par excellence of the last 40 years of Italian music. An absolute master of pen and thought, who has always aroused emotions in the public and praise from critics at each issue, while always keeping away from the limelight. "The diver", "Marco Polo", "The disappearance of Majorana" are some of his masterpieces that will be reproduced live together with the songs of his new album soon to be released, an English-language project entitled "Recent happenings".

Space instead for one of the most interesting Tuscan musical realities of recent years: on July 31st Elisabetta Ligarò arrives from Pisa, aka GOLD MASS - fresh winner of the historic indie prize Arezzo Wave Toscana. Soul voice, refined and persuasive electronic music in his album "Transitions", produced by Paul Savage. The castle hosts concerts in the main hall, under a loggia or even in the front garden. An evocative setting to revive the Florentine summer in the name of art and music. Bar and aperitif service and a large audience for the public will be provided in full compliance with the anti-contagion rules. Admission reserved for members of La filharmonie and La Chute.

Filharmonie

Orchestra La Filharmonie, managed by the homonymous Association, was born from the will of a group of young professionals, all under the age of thirty-five, with an already prestigious professional profile that boasts experiences with some of the most important national and international chamber and orchestral groups. Flexibly deals with symphonic and chamber music, musical theater, ballet, applied music and new forms of expression. He resides permanently at the Teatrodante Carlo Monni in Campi Bisenzio (Florence), the main venue for his concert seasons and is among the seven youth instrumental complexes recognized and supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities in Italy.

The fall

The La Chute cultural association - among the most active in the entire Florentine and regional panorama, with over 60 concerts organized in 2019 alone - found itself this summer without its usual summer "home", that is, the space managed in collaboration with Chille de la Balanza at the former mental hospital of San Salvi. The Castle therefore represents a splendid opportunity to give continuity to the countless musical proposals of the association in these years, which have given it a leading role also in the last three editions of the Florentine Summer.
