It is the monumental winged man Gabriel by Daniele Basso that the 25 and the 27 July 2019 will stand out on the stage of the Theater of Silence by Andrea Bocelli in Lajatico. Fourteen meters high, 350 mirrored steel faces, 597 edges, 207 linear meters of welding, are the impressive numbers that characterize the work - entirely handmade in collaboration with Laseryacht - which celebrates the universal value of freedom: " We are free to choose and fly beyond all limits, ”says Basso. Ali di Libertà is in fact the title of the new show by Andrea Bocelli, under the artistic direction of Alberto Bartalini, directed by Luca Tommassini, the organization and production of CitySound & Events.
The musical event is known in the Italian and international scene - many celebrities are expected each year in the parterre - for its innovative format immersed in art and nature, which combines classical and pop music, with contaminations between dance, theater and visual arts.
On the shores of the small lake that is the backdrop to the performances, Daniele Basso's work becomes the symbol and scenography of the concert.
The imposing sculpture installed on the stage will be the landing point of an exhibition itinerary entirely dedicated to Daniele Basso - entitled "In volo", directed by Alberto Bartalini and curated by Matteo Graniti, which is part of the program of the "ArtiInsolite 2019 ”- which runs from 8 July to 15 September 2019 between Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the halls of the Palazzo Comunale in Lajatico and culminates on the famous stage of the Teatro del Silenzio.
The works that Daniele Basso has designed for the occasion - about sixteen, in steel and bronze, of small, medium and very large dimensions - offer an experience of spiritual elevation through art, offering the visitor multiple points of reflection in the hope to stimulate an increasingly conscious individual and collective identity in him.
In a crescendo of tension, the sculptures of the Biella artist put the spiritual dimension of man at the center and accompany the visitor through three increasingly higher stages of consciousness. From a formal point of view, there are some fixed points of his research: the mirror surfaces, which make everyone protagonists of the work and its message, and the folds, physical expression of change, the only true constant in life, metaphor of complexity of reality.
In the halls of the Palazzo Comunale di Lajatico, the works on display embody dreams, expectations and fears, but also symbols, ideas and projects, which encourage reflections on what the artist defines as “habitual consciousness”.
As in the work Naturae (in hand-polished steel, 190 cm high) which, inspired by Botticelli's Venus, highlights the need for a renewed approach to Nature; o ReLeone (mirror-polished steel, 88x32xh75 cm), an act of love dedicated to his son Leone, who investigates the symbolic value of this name and is a wish for courage, strength and dignity.
In the square of the Tuscan village the protagonist is the epic clash between courage and fear embodied by Ikaros and Boogeyman (respectively in steel and steel and corten, both 340 cm high): it is when we know our fears and decide to overcome them - says Basso - who can access a higher level of "conscious awareness".
Finally, on stage, the imposing Gabriel projects us towards “pure consciousness” in a dimension where we reach a new harmony with Nature and come into contact with the true meaning of life.
For the occasion, a monograph will be published in Italian and English, with the texts of the curators Matteo Graniti and Allegra Santini and the images of the exhibition and site specific works created for the Teatro del Silenzio and for the review "ArtiInsolite 2019".
To complete the "In volo" project in Lajatico, Forte dei Marmi dedicates to Daniele Basso, from 9 August to 8 September 2019, another anthological exhibition entitled "Oltre Verso", directed by Alberto Bartalini and curated by Allegra Santini, which exhibits a group of about forty works in the famous Fortino. Among these, the monumental Man Of Steel sculpture stands out, created especially for the occasion, installed in Piazza Marconi in the center of the Versilian town. “Oltre Verso” marks the strengthening of the union and dialogue between Lajatico, Teatro del Silenzio and Forte dei Marmi, as places dear to Maestro Bocelli.
