With a series of initiatives scheduled between August and September, the dozens of Municipalities of Tuscany will celebrate the "Etruscan Day”, An event promoted by the Regional Council and now in its fourth edition. It is, the president of the regional council recalled, Eugenio Giani, of a project with which "we want to salute our ancestors". Ideally, Giani explained, "the Etruscan Day is dated 27 August, because on that day of the 1569, Pope Pius V awarded Cosimo I with the title of 'Magnus Dux Etruriae', thus instituting the title of Grand Duke for those who since then onwards, until the unification of Italy, it succeeded the leadership of Tuscany ".
Fifteen are the projects who participated in the call that awarded a total allocation of 32mila 109,88 euro. Many more, however, are the Municipalities involved, because some, as in the case of the Casentino, have participated together with the presentations of projects dedicated to the "Etruscan Day", which includes initiatives throughout the regional territory. The basic idea is to celebrate a civilization that, well before the Roman conquest, defined the geographical and cultural characteristics of Tuscany. "The Etruscans - the president Giani explained - have introduced the first important technological innovation with the birth and development of the iron civilization, they have handed down to us a prominent social role for women and have left us their great knowledge inheritance urban. In short, that ancient civilization has traced the road to today's Tuscany ".
The highlight of the event will be the 30 August al lake of the Idols, in Casentino, ancient place of devotion, where the president Giani will go, together with the mayors of the area, to leave a floral tribute in the place where the ancient Etruscans went to leave their ex-votos.
Conferences, exhibitions, archaeological walks and shows will take place in the municipalities involved in the project: Sesto Fiorentino, Pitigliano, Carmignano, Sorano, Firenzuola, Biebbiena, Pratovecchio-Stia, Castelfocognano, Massa Marittima, Grosseto, Capannoli, Palazzuolo sul Senio, Chiusi, Vicchio Fiesole, Chianciano Terme and Buti.
