Seven hundred years ago, in 1321, Dante Aligheri, the Supreme Poet, symbol and icon of Italian culture in the world and brilliant creator of the Divine Comedy, died. Florence, the city where he was born, where he actively participated in political life, becoming first a Knight and then Prior, and from which, precisely for political reasons, he was exiled in 1302, he remembers him now with a year of events. Over thirty Florentine institutions - gathered in an Organizing Committee coordinated by City of Florence, Department of Culture, Fashion, Design and International Relations, Culture Department e Sport e PO Florence World Heritage and relations with UNESCO, with the communication and coordination support of MUS.E - have in fact decided to tell the story of Dante and his never forgotten Florence in a dense and highly interesting program, digital and otherwise, through conferences, study days, events and exhibitions open to the general public. From tomorrow, Tuesday 29 December 2020, the calendar of this extraordinary year is finally available online on the portal www.700dantefirenze.it, while daily updates can be found on the Facebook page @ 700dantefirenze.

“Dante belongs to everyone - says Tommaso Sacchi, Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Florence - and we are proud that many Florentine entities, associations, realities collaborate together to organize the events of the 700th anniversary of his death. We will have numerous appointments of all artistic and cultural disciplines and thanks to this unique website we will always be able to be updated on what is to be followed. We are confident that 2021 will truly be a year of rebirth for culture and we are happy to start over from the father of our language ".

The anniversary will be very articulated and, above all, choral, without barriers between the various artistic disciplines, in order to tell at 360 degrees what Dante represented and what still represents today. Precisely to make the character's versatility fully, and to trace a path that is literary, political, but also historical and biographical, the Organizing Committee is composed of numerous Bodies, Institutions and Associations, which we all want to mention here: City of Florence, Tuscany region, Metropolitan City of Florence, University of Florence, Uffizi Galleries, Strozzi Foundation, Scientific Literary Cabinet GP Vieusseux, National Central Library of Florence, Medici-Laurentian Library, Riccardiana Library, State Archives of Florence, National Theater of Tuscany, Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino Foundation, National Institute of Renaissance Studies, Italian Dante Society, Academy of Design Arts, Bran Academy, Work of Santa Croce, Opera of Santa Maria Novella, Museo galileo, Dante Alighieri Society - Florence Committee, Bargello Museums, Fiorentina Union - Dante's House Museum, Tuscan Academy of Sciences and Letters "La Colombaria", Opera del Duomo, British Institute, French Institute, Villa I Tatti, Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Franco Zeffirelli Onlus Foundation, Academy Museum, Savings Bank Foundation e Laurentian Medicean Opera.
