This year the Chianti Classico Collection was staged in one of the symbolic places of the Florentine Renaissance, the Chiostro Grande del Museum of Santa Maria Novella, the Dominican convent dating back to the XIV century of the homonymous Basilica. Splendidly frescoed, it is the largest cloister in the city, built in the mid-1300s, which leads to the ancient Pharmacy of Santa Maria Novella and the Chapel of the Popes, built inside what were the papal apartments, the "Laterano fiorentino ”, frescoed by a young Pontormo.

In tasting the Black Rooster in its declinations: 196 vintage Chianti Classico labels, in addition to 9 previews of the 2020 harvest, 139 of Chianti Classico Riserva and 98 of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione and the wines suitable for becoming. To complete an already rich tasting also the amber nuance of the Vin Santo del Chianti Classico, presented by 35 companies, and the green gold of the Chianti Classico DOP Oil, with 34 labels.

A territory, that of Chianti Classico, which today it is possible to discover and get to know in a clear and understandable way, thanks to the brand new geoviticola map of the denomination, accessible from the "municipalities" page of the official website of the Chianti Classico Consortium ( An in-depth tool, accurate and at the same time simple in approach thanks to the subdivision into 11 cartographic units identified having in mind first of all the vine and its relationship with the soils and precisely the geology, the result of collaboration with prof. Simone Priori, University of Tuscia.

Giovanni Manetti

"We finally have a tool that allows us to tell with a common language the land on which we winegrowers walk every day - declares the President Giovanni Manetti - our consumers and our interlocutors on the markets are increasingly interested in the area of origin, and less and less in the technical details of aging, and geology is an essential element to describe a territory, to define its uniqueness. We can finally tell the story of Chianti Classico from its dawn, 145 million years ago. "

My tasting focused on the Gran Selezioni type, wine produced from single vineyard or from a selection of the best grapes exclusively owned by the company. Minimum aging: 30 months, 3 of which are in bottle. Organoleptic characteristics of excellence.

2019 is certainly a winning year for Chianti Classico, brilliant, savory and well-structured wines, a vintage that over the years will be able to tell wonderful wines. The Gran Selezioni are the consortium's choice of style: wines that represent the excellence of each winery, in each bottle we find the most authentic characters, and the warmest nuances of each Chianti Classico area.
