A law for “awareness raising interventions for the reduction and recycling of plastic in the environment". The Pegaso Palace Hall approved the deed of initiative of the President of the Tuscan Assembly Eugenio Giani, of the vice-president Lucia De Robertis and the councilor secretary of the Bureau Antonio Mazzeo - during today's meeting, Wednesday 9 October. All groups voted in favor, except the League, which opted for abstention. On 26 voters: 22 yes and 4 abstained.
The law, as recalled by Mazzeo during the illustration, arises from a motion voted by the Regional Council on the non-use of plastic on the Tuscan territory, is in line with European policies and the Ministry's campaigns, and will make use of 300mila euro, deriving from last year's operating surplus.
The interventions will be implemented through the Tuscany Tourist Promotion Agency, as an in-house body of the Tuscany Region, also in collaboration with the subjects operating in the field of environmental protection, according to a specific protocol of understanding. These are the essential contents of the protocol: detailed project of the awareness campaign; recipients of interventions such as incoming tourists, domestic tourists, school students and museum visitors, local administrations promoting projects and the general public; forms of support for capillary interventions in the territory; timing of their realization, reporting methods by the Tuscan tourist promotion agency and possible recovery of sums by the regional council. Environmental protection activities will range from workshops in schools to online videos, from videos for social media to local communities for virtuous projects.
"Thanks to the comparison during the joint session between the Environment and Economic Development committees, for a more effective and harmonious application of the law, we presented an agenda that commits the Bureau - underlined Mazzeo - to take action for the involvement regional agencies operating in the environmental sector, starting from Arpat (Regional Agency for Environmental Protection) and Arrr (Regional Resource Recovery Agency), in addition to the water managers of Tuscany ". The act also commits the UP to verify, before the agreement protocol with the Tuscany tourism promotion agency, the details of the main activities to be undertaken.
On this agenda the Council expressed itself in favor, as well as on that presented by the Yes-Tuscany group on the left, which commits the Regional Council to "promote, in agreement with the Tuscan water authority, the Municipalities and the managing bodies of the integrated water service, a specific project aimed at increasing the number of public points where citizens and tourists can access drinking water ". As explained by Thomas Factors, "This initiative to bring fountains back to the region, aims to create a widespread and evenly distributed network, with particular attention to the most frequented public places".
With regard to the law, the councilor spoke of a "shared objective, while maintaining perplexity on the appropriateness of the identified subject, Tuscany tourism promotion", announcing the favorable vote, "for the convincing arguments".
Same declaration of vote also for James Giannarelli (M5S): "Given the widening of the audience of the subjects involved, starting from Arpat and Arrr - he said - I hope that the resources are spent in the best way".
Out of the core Luciana Bartolini (League): "It was enough to make a change in the budget, without resorting to a law, where it does not convince the custody in Tuscany promotion". Hence the announcement of abstention by the Lega group.
