From the architectures still present in Pisa, Arezzo, Siena and Livorno to the most intimate places such as Cerreto Guidi or La Verna: from the end of August the "Cosimian paths”, Itineraries free to discover the "testimonies" of the government of Cosimo I de 'Medici organized by the Municipality of Florence and MUS.E, with the support of Unicoop Firenze on the occasion of five hundredth anniversary of the birth of Cosimo and Caterina de 'Medici.
With an important innovation: the cycle of appointments will not only be of interest Firenze but will extend to other parts of the regione. During his political career Cosimo I - extraordinarily acute and charismatic, but also "tremendous and frightening prince", as the Venetian ambassador Vincenzo Fedeli writes - indelibly designed a new architectural and urban layout of the city of Florence and the whole of Tuscany : elected just seventeen "head and chief of the government of the city of Florence and his domain" he found himself governing a large and fragile territory that included vast areas of countryside, small villages, large urban centers: among them the vicariates of San Giovanni Valdarno, Certaldo and Scarperia; the enclaves of Lunigiana and Garfagnana; the cities of Arezzo, Pisa, Pistoia, Volterra, Cortona, which will be joined by 1555, after a war as brief as it was intense, including Siena.
The itinerary of the "Routes in Florence"Will start from his family home, Medici Palace on Via Larga, to expand to the surrounding "Medici quarter", to the residences of dignitaries and councilors and continue with theAcademy of Design Arts, the square and the ducal palace (later to become the Palazzo Vecchio di piazza), the elegant architecture of the magistrates and the "uffizi", Palazzo Pitti, new and monumental Medici palace.
Among the emblems of Cosimo I include two anchors with the Latin word "duabus", signifying the two foundations of his power: the alliance with the Empire and the fortification of the State of Tuscany. If the alliance with the emperor Charles V marks the fortunes of the Florentine government and the young duke at its summit, the fortresses and garrisons built at the behest of Cosimo I in every corner of the region offer themselves as clear cornerstones of its territorial policy: the "Routes in Tuscany" will allow you to grasp the most significant evidence, from Pisa, Arezzo, Siena e Livorno a Cerreto Guidi e La Verna, witnessing both the policy of reorganization, control and defense of the Duke as well as its assiduous frequentation of the territory.
